NEW INVENTORY - Pair of John Dickson & Son Round-Actions, made in 1902
12 Gauge, patent triggerplate action, side-by-side shotguns
We are very pleased to offer these beautiful Round-Action guns from 1902, the start of the 'Golden Years' of Round-Action manufacture.
These guns are in fine condition throughout with the bolder Sumner foliate scroll engraving and the classic 'John Dickson & Son Patent' scroll banner inscription on the sides of the action. The actions are the later post 1900 style with all the great attributes - no indicators, the fuller detonators, narrow ri-banded fence and double-ramp safety button. The guns are fitted with well figured matching stocks and the chequering is crisp. The beautiful damascus barrels measure well and the bores are clean and clear and lock-up to the actions is as it should be. The guns come complete in their original makers oak and leather case.
The guns have been regularly maintained and serviced by Dickson's over the last forty years and in recent times have had their barrels re-browned and furniture reblacked at the last service.
At some point in its distant past, the No. 1 gun has been put away into its case and left with some moisture on the top surface of the barrels and it caused some pitting to the external surface of the gun in a few small areas. This damage has been reflected into the asking price, making this pair a very attractive proposition.
Provenance
The guns were delivered in August 1902 just in time for The Glorious Twelfth to a Captain in the Royal Scots who spent his military career in Africa, with service in Zululand and the Boer War, earning him a number of medals, including being awarded the DSO.
