John Dickson & Son Round-Action, made in 1895, Fern Leaf Carved

12 Gauge, patent triggerplate action, side-by-side shotgun

We are very pleased to present this fine Round-Action, delivered in 1895. The gun is in excellent condition throughout with the full coverage Sumner fine scroll engraving and 'John Dickson & Son' 'Patent' banner engraved on the sides of the action.  In addition, it has fern leaves beautifully chased into the detonators, which is a very rare feature. The action is the pre-1900 shape with cocking indicators, the slightly fuller detonators adorned with the fern leaves, fuller ribanded fence, lock-pin in the 'widows peak' toplever and the early safety button shape. The gun is fitted with a well-figured stock which is finished with a slim heelplate, and seamless sleeved steel barrels are again in excellent condition, measuring as the day they were proved, and the barrels benefit from now having 2 3/4in chambers.

Provenance

Delivered as the No. 1 gun of a matched pair in August 1895 to the son of Viscount Elibank. The Honorable gentleman was a Captain in the Queen's Own Cameron Highlanders, who was seconded to the Lovat Scouts during the Boer War. He valiantly fought and fell at Quaagersfontein in September 1901 and is commemorated on the Cameron Highlanders memorial at St Giles' Cathedral, Edinburgh.
