Magnificent Pair of John Dickson & Son Round-Actions made in 1896/8

12 Gauge, patent triggerplate action, side-by-side shotguns

Sourcing good pairs of Round-Actions is an ever increasing challenge. Finding a pair with damascus barrels in good, serviceable order makes this task even more difficult.

We can now present the most fabulous pair of vintage Round-Actions we have ever offered for sale.

The No. 1 gun was delivered in August 1896 as Best Patent Hammerless Ejector Gun. Marked with Patent Use Number 600, its the 600th patent-gun made in the Round-Actions 140 year history. The action has the traditional Sumner scroll engraving for the period and the chiselled dandelion detonators that were a characteristic feature during a period of only two years.  The No. 2 gun was delivered in July 1898 to match the No. 1 gun and marked with Patent Use Number 689, meaning its 89 patent guns after the No. 1 gun.

The actions and lockwork are in superb condition - the actions built without indicators but featuring Intercepting sears on the triggerplate and all pins are crisp and slotted correctly.

Both guns feature 28in damascus barrels which are nitro proof, the bores are immaculate, exteriors straight and true, measure very well and show now signs of damage or repair.  To prepare these guns for sale, we have stripped and re-laid the ribs, re-cut the name, address and breach engraving and re-browned the barrels.

The guns stocks and fore-ends are in excellent condition with little wear and so to prepare these guns for sale, we have gently cleaned the woodwork and cleaned out the chequering only. The stock ovals still have the initials of the previous owner. The family have confirmed that the No. 1 gun was restocked in the 1980's after the original stock was damaged and then repaired until the restocking could take place.

The pair come in a beautiful oak-and-leather case, which we have deep cleaned externally and internally and had a new handle and straps made. We have fitted the case out with new Dickson accessories and the case still has its original keys. These guns have only been owned by two families in the the last 125 years and have the most fabulous provenance which you can read about here.
